Solutions Implemented:
Non-Return Valve Installation 🔧: One of our primary tasks was to install 150mm non-return valves at strategic road inlet outlets. These devices are crucial in preventing water from backing up through drainage lines and flooding the roads. By stopping backflow, these valves give the community extra time to respond to severe rainfall, reducing the immediate impact of potential flooding and ensuring better water management during regular rain events.
High-Pressure Water Jetting 💦: To set the stage for effective valve installation, we began with high-pressure water jetting to remove years’ worth of debris and sediment from the pipes. Some of the drainage lines we encountered had up to 80% blockage from accumulated mud and debris. This thorough cleaning was a vital part of Phase 1, ensuring that the system could handle future water flow efficiently and that the newly installed valves would function optimally.
Marker Post Installation 🚩: Working with the district council, we installed approved marker posts to mark the locations of the non-return valves. These markers are essential for maintenance teams, allowing them to identify the valve sites quickly when clearing vegetation along the awarded watercourse. Day of Installation and Execution:
Returning to the site, we prepared by cutting back both PVC and clay pipes to a flush state, as years of wear had left them uneven and damaged.
